The ACCESS consortium held its first face-to-face events at the UNAPEC University, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, from 5 to 8 April.

The 4th Training Workshop "Good practices in the attention of students with disabilities and accessible technologies" took place on the 5th and 6th of April and was delivered by representatives of the Secretariat for Student Support and Employability and the Digital Accessibility Unit of the University of Alicante (Spain). The workshop was attended by 46 delegates from Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Greece and Spain, representing the 13 Higher Education Institutions and 3 national Ministries of Education participating in the ACCESS project. The event was held in a hybrid format (face-to-face and on-line) facilitating the participation of representatives from all partner institutions. This training workshop was especially addressed to members of the support centres for students with disabilities, academic professionals and key service staff of the partner HEIs as well as representatives of the Ministries of Higher Education of the ACCESS consortium member countries.

The 1st International Conference "Accessibility to Higher Education in Costa Rica, Cuba and the Dominican Republic" was held on 7 April. More than 150 participants from Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic and Spain attended in person or virtually, as the conference was held in hybrid format. The conference was inaugurated by Dr. Franklyn Holguín Haché, Rector of Unapec, Dr. Franklin García Fermín, Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCyT) of the Dominican Republic and Dr. Osvaldo Canario, Executive Director of the National Council on Disability (CONADIS). During the meeting, an agreement was signed between MESCyT and CONADIS to promote research and innovation in the field of disability, data collection, among other aspects.

ACCESS/“Promoting Accessibility of Students with Disability to Higher Education in Cuba, Costa Rica and Dominican Republic” is an Erasmus+ Key Action 2: Cooperation for innovation and the exchange of good practices: Capacity-building in higher education, co-funded by the European Commission. The overall objective of the ACCESS project is to improve accessibility, ensure learning conditions and foster policy change towards inclusion for students with disabilities within the context of the Higher Education system in Costa Rica, Cuba and Dominican Republic via modern inclusion practices, training and networking.
